Top 5 Internet Providers in Tampa, FL
Highest-rated internet providers in Tampa
We’ve seen what each of the main competitors in Tampa have to offer, but how do they stack up side by side? EarthLink took top rankings in our annual ISP customer satisfaction survey.
EarthLink
EarthLink got the highest rating in our survey for overall customer satisfaction. It also came in first place for speed, price, reliability, and customer service. All in all, it’s clear that customers are highly satisfied with EarthLink’s service, choosing it over much larger providers.

Xfinity
Xfinity got low ratings in our survey, coming in second to last for overall satisfaction and last for price and customer service. But the numbers aren’t totally bleak. Only 42% of customers reported experiencing unexpected fees or price hikes from Xfinity, which is about average compared to other providers we examined. And while the provider got below-average rankings for speed, 87% of Xfinity customers told us their speeds usually or always meet their household needs.

Spectrum
According to our survey, Spectrum is below average for speed and reliability—coming in near last place in both categories. But those lower ratings may reflect a larger frustration with cable internet in general as customers’ expectations shifted during the global COVID-19 lockdown. The vast majority of Spectrum customers (87%) told us Spectrum’s speeds usually or always meet their needs, while well over half of the customers said they don’t get unexpected fees or price hikes.

Frontier
Frontier wasn’t included in our annual survey, but other consumer satisfaction reports show it gets decent ratings for its fiber service and lower rankings for its DSL offerings.

Spectrum, Frontier, and EarthLink—also very fast
Spectrum, Frontier, and EarthLink offer plans with gigabit speeds, which is incredibly fast and will hold up against pretty much anything you throw at it. Their gigabit internet prices are just a bit higher than Xfinity’s Gigabit plan but will still serve you well. A speed of 500–1,000 Mbps is fast enough to let you do all sorts of things:
- Stream in HD on 5 or more devices
- Play online multiplayer games
- Download a 2 GB file in a couple minutes
- Attend Zoom meetings on 5 or more devices
Top-speed internet like this really comes in handy when you’re living with a lot of people and everyone is sharing the same Wi-Fi. Even with 10 people in your house, you’ll be able to stream, download, play games, and do video chats without any major slowdowns or constant buffering.
